Comhlamh’s First Wednesday Debates Returning Autumn 2013

The ‘First Wednesday Debates’ are a series of debates on the first Wednesday of each month in Dublin.

They were initiated in October 2005 to mark our 30th anniversary year and we’re delighted to say that after a short absence they’re returning this Autumn.

The debates/forums are an opportunity for the public to engage and discuss development issues and and usually result in informative and passionate yet respectful debates. We encourage the audience to share and discuss their ideas freely while enjoying an environment of respect towards the diversity of opinions.

The format: each of the two speakers talks for approximately 15-20 minutes, moderated by a chairperson, and the discussion then opens out to involve the audience with a question and answer/discussion session. Admission is free although the debates are quite popular and entry is on a first-come, first-served basis. You can view a clip of a previous debate tackling the representation of development in new media below or review the 2011/12 series here.
