Comhlamh is Delighted to Announce the Appointment of its New Director

Deirdre Murray will be taking up her new role as Director of Comhlamh from 26th May 2008, replacing Graham Whitehead who has been acting as Interim Director since April 2007. 

Deirdre will be returning to Ireland after six years in Ethiopia, initially as Concern Ethiopia's Project Officer (Emergency) where she coordinated emergency projects and food distribution.

Following this short-term role, Deirdre spent some time as the Rapid Assessment Officer for Save The Children USA in Ethiopia where she planned and implemented emergency health, nutrition and food security assessments, amongst other roles.

In January 2004, Deirdre became Regional Manager for GOAL Ethiopia, developing and managing programmes at regional level, liaising with government and other beneficiaries and managing a staff team.

In 2006 she became the Southern Regional Support and Gender Advisor for GOAL Ethiopia, supporting regional management structures and developing GOAL Ethiopia's gender processes and capacity building programmes for all fields and activities.

Last year, Deirdre became the Regional Gender Coordinator for GOAL Ethiopia, developing policies and toolkits to integrate gender and GBV mainstreaming across GOAL programming in Ethiopia.

Deirdre is a member of Comhlamh and has benefited from its support as a returned development worker in the early 90s. She was also active in its Services Committee.

Deirdre is looking forward to starting her new role at Comhlamh and returning to Ireland.
