Come along to hear 2 experts in their field debate whether or not Ireland can still afford overseas aid. Since the start of this year the Government has cut €195 million from the overseas aid budget. Is it realistic in the current economic climate to aim to spend .7% of our national income on overseas aid by 2012? This issue will be debated by Hans Zomer Director of Dóchas and Alan McQuaid, Chief Economist with Bloxham Stockbrokers. Anne Molloy of Amnesty International will chair this debate.

Aoife Black – EU Policy & Advocacy Officer with Trocaire spoke in favour of the motion. Barry Finnegan a founding member of ‘The Article 133 Information Group’ which produced research on trade justice and economic democracy issues spoke against the motion.
