About Development Education

Development Education is about exploring development issues through participatory learning approaches with the aim of changing attitudes and promoting positive changes in society locally and globally.

What do we do?

  • We provide courses for people interested in learning more about development issues through our Development Education course offering.
  • We facilitate volunteer groups for those ready to do something about development issues (link to Comhlámh’s Volunteer Groups’ section)
  • We lobby and campaign on issues of global poverty for a more equitable world.
  • We support primary school teachers and people involved in development education with resources and practitioner-focused courses.
  • We produce Index, the Irish Newsletter for Development Education Exchange, for those involved in development education to share perspectives about their practice.
  • We also produce Focus Magazine for those interested in finding out about development issues and actions they can take in Ireland.
  • Additionally, we publish an Index Contacts List annually which lists all of the organisations working in development in Ireland.
  • We offer pre-departure training for people thinking about volunteering overseas through the Volunteering Options Programme.
  • We provide services for returned development workers to assist them in their reintegration into Irish Society.

There are many ways in which you can get involved in Development Education work with us.  Follow the ‘get involved ’ link of this website and find out about our various volunteer groups, training courses and resources!
