This ten week evening course aims to equip participants with the skills and methodologies to work effectively with groups on global development and social justice issue in a friendly, informal group environment.

During the course development issues are discussed however the focus is not on learning about the issues, but on how to use participatory methodologies to explore a variety of issues from a development education perspective. It will enable participants to adapt these methodologies to any group setting and to work more effectively and creatively with groups.

This course is open to anyone with an interest in educating or raising awareness about development and inequality, including but not limited to youth and community workers, teachers, and those working in group settings.

Sessions will include:

  • An Introduction to Development Education Facilitation Skills
  • Challenging Images & Messages Intercultural & Anti Racism Approaches
  • Creative Planning & Evaluation Taking Action
  • Debt as a Development Education and Justice Issue Global Trade Justice

Participants will be expected to:

  • To fill out a learning journal during the course to encourage critical reflection on their learning.
  • To actively participate in each session.
  • To work with other participants to prepare and deliver a short activity for the group by the end of the course.

Date: 6.15pm – 8.45pm, Thursday evenings, February 6th – April 10th.

Cost: €120 (non-member); €60 (Comhlámh member concession); €5 Asylum seeker
Comhlámh membership costs: €45 for waged, €25 for the overseas rate, and €10 for those with no wage.
