Africa Day 2011

AfAfrica Day logorica Day, an initiative of the African Union, falls on the 25th May each year.  A weeklong series of events with African music, dance, film, history, educational activities, sport and art and will take place between May 21st and May 29th to mark Africa Day in Ireland. The aim of the week is to celebrate the diversity and potential of the African continent and increase awareness of Ireland’s many links with Africa. Events will include a concert by the Congolese musician Niwel Tsumbu, a North African bellydancing workshop with Yasmina,  Swahili henna design workshop and more. Mission Accomplished? Debates as Part Of Africa Day Cultural Week

The consultation is in advance of Ireland's UPR hearing which takes place in Geneva in October this year. The UPR is a unique process which involves a review of the human rights records of all 192 UN Member States once every four years. Meetings will take place as follows:

•    30 May Axis Ballymun Theatre, Main Street, Ballymun, Dublin 9

Camara LogoCamara 10K Sandymount Fun Run

Open to all ages and abilities. There will be a 10K and a 5K course. Entry free. However participants are asked to fund-raise for Camara Ireland through sponsorship. Proceeds will fund Camara's Irish Schools program, which will supply 70 Irish local schools and community centres with 1,400 computers over the coming year.
