It is now realised that re-entry shock is more severe than the shock of meeting a new culture for the first time. It's important then to understand that the process of readjustment has a begining, a middle and an end.
Comhlámh has recently produced the sixth issue of "The Coming Home Book" as a useful resource for returned development workers and volunteers. We also run quarterly "Coming Home Weekends" which are supported by Irish Aid, for returned development workers and volunteers that have spent 3 months or more overseas.
All returned development workers or volunteers who have spent 2 months or more overseas are entitled to 12 months free membership of Comhlámh courtesy of Irish Aid. For those returning having spent 3 months or more overseas, Comhlámh provides free membership PLUS access to a range of additional support services, including personal debriefing sessions, counselling, career guidance sessions and Coming Home Weekends. To avail of your FREE membership please contact stuart@comhlamh.org. More information on support services is available here.
